Tonight we had the opportunity to watch the key note from this weeks “Build Windows” conference in Anaheim, California. We where gathered 8 colleages, to watch the big sales show from Microsoft. Microsoft gave us vouchers for pizza and beer, so i arranged the evening for my colleagues.
Great thanks to my colleage Bjarke for making the picture and sound ready for os.
The metro show
Steven Sinofsaky started the show off, on a stage filled with both small and super big computers and tablets. And he made a big deal out off, how fast Windows 8 will boot and work on the different devices, with their new metro interface. It quickly became a funny mix of sales talk, and code sessions. The codes session, where almost to fast, but showed a very easy way to develop apps for both Windows 8 and Windows Phone.
They had some glitches on the scene, with Windows 8 not reacting as it should. But it’s still an early stage in development. But i will become available for at tech preview in a few hours on MSDN dev center homepage. I will be in there as the first thing in the morning to get the new tools.
Windows Phone
They showed how easy it was to port the Windows 8 app to a Windows Phone app. It looks pretty simple. As combining HTML5, XAML and C#, you can make great apps for both platforms easily. I had hope for a little more info about the Windows Phone.
Roaming live id profile
I think the release of Windows 8, could make the Windows Phone more popular, as one of the great thing is the Microsoft Live ID, will tie your phone, home pc and work pc, and your tablets etc. together with a secure roaming profile. This means that settings you make on one machine, will be synced to the others.
Other cool things is, that you get access to your work pc, from your home pc. Without any form of VPN. Just sign in on both machines, and they will see eachother, through what they call “A little bit of cloud”.
Future is bright
Windows 8 seems to have taken a deep look into how both Apple and Google have made their operating system for tablets and phones. And had a great goal of doing it better. I like the idea how apps can consume each other, so if you choose to make an image browser, and another app connects and share af picture library for facebook. Your app will automatically have the opportunity to use that without changing your code. great.
